The property is located in the Montagnola Senese national park and the secluded hilltop setting near Siena offers stunning views over the Tuscan countryside, whilst still being close to beautiful historic towns such as Florence and San Gimignano as well as the Chianti, Montalcino and Montepulciano wine regions.
Podere "La Castellina" has an interesting history (dating back to 1204) and having been a convent until 1504 it was then bought by the important Senese family of Tolomei. The present owners, Silvio and Joy, are responsible for the sympathetic renovation of the buildings, retaining many of the original features such as beamed ceilings and terracotta floors.
Having lived in England for 25 years before deciding to return to his native Italy, the owner Silvio lives on the
property with Joy, his wife, and is always available to provide advice on everything from the
best local restaurants to getting tickets for the Palio. Thanks to the hospitality provided to our guests
we are pleased to say that a great many have become regular visitors and friends.
Situated near Sovicille, the nearest shops, church and bank are at Rosia, 5 miles from the property and there is a 9 hole golf course only 15 miles away. La Castellina is 12 miles west of Siena and within easy reach of San Gimignano and Monteriggioni whilst Florence is only 45 minutes away by car.
